Two (!) Netbooks in $100 range at CES 2009: ALPHA 400 and COBY Midget
$100 Netbook: Coby Electronics has done it all, from LCD TVs like the TF-TV705, to MP3 players such as MPC582 -- but now they've really done it. http://www.htlounge.net/article/7176/99-price-point-hit-by-coby-netbook/ Their latest addition to the catalog is the upcoming netbook named "Midget PC." According to Bob Gee from Coby, the Midget will be available for $99.95 in early 2009, and there will be two models: 7-inches or 9-inches. Watch for this at the International CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, January 8-11, 2009 -- and in discount stores, drug stores, and other usual Coby outlets in March. This could be the first example of a computer on a blisterpack card hanging from racks at Walgreens and Krogers! http://arkansas.indymedia.org/newswire/display/23048/index.php
$170 Netbook: Also at the CES 2009 consumer electronics show, Belco will be showing its new Alpha-400, a 400MHz, 128MB, 1GB, 7" Linux ultralite notebook. http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_11345519 I've spent three weeks with it now, and the Alpha-400 is nice little netbook that is actually fun to play with for surfing the internet. It also can do productive things as well, like word-processing, charts, graphs, daily planning, and even chatting and watching movies or listening to music! It is a real computer with a 7-inch display, 128MB RAM, 1GB internal memory, a 400MHz MIPS processor, a 10/100 MB Ethernet interface, and WiFi connectivity. It also has a SDHC memory card slot for another 32GB of storage and runs on Linux. Let’s not forget it works as an e-book, MP3 and game player and has installed business software. You can get the netbook for way cheap. Try $169.95.
