SANTIAGO (AFX) - A small bomb exploded last night outside a bank ahead of the summit of the countries forming the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), police said.
Anti-globalisation protesters opposing the summit clashed with the police yesterday.
Asia Pacific foreign and trade ministers today opened a second day of talks in preparation for a weekend summit of the leaders to be attended by US President George Bush.
The 21 members' trade and foreign ministers from the APEC countries yesterday stepped up the pace for a new global trade pact by calling for an interim ministerial meeting before a major WTO meeting in Hong Kong in Dec 2005.
The ministers are also due to discuss issues such as terrorism and North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
